Camrin Lynn Mar was the firstborn to Mun and Helen Mar on December 21, 1957, in Oakland, California. Three and a half years later she had a brother Craig and soon thereafter came two sisters, Traci and Robin.
Camrin flourished making anything out of paper and cardboard, being in Bluebirds, and being a caring big sister. When she was 7, she was tragically burned on a third of her body. Even though she did not know God yet, He was with her and she survived.
Being burned did not inhibit Camrin in any way. She thrived in friendships, sports, and academics. When she was 12, she trusted Jesus to be her Savior, and a year later she was baptized. She graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont in 1976, having enjoyed being a part of Young Life and the field hockey team, and also holding a class office position. She went to community college and state university and then graduated from Biola University with a Sociology degree.
After college, she worked in finance, systems analysis, and information technology for many years with private companies and CityTeam Ministries, an inner-city ministry based in San Jose. She loved hosting a kids club for Cambodian children for many years. She also was involved in a women’s prison ministry.
The Lord was working in her greatly and, in 1995, she was led to attend Morningstar School of Ministry in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1996, she joined the All Nations Church led by Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda. Here she found profound discipleship and ministry opportunities and was ordained. Through this ministry, the Lord had her cross paths with John Harris on November 1, 2001. They got married on June 8, 2002. It was a whirlwind romance completely orchestrated and anointed by God to build a bridge to the nations with the good news of Jesus.
Two years later, Camrin devoted herself to helping raise Katie, John’s young daughter of 7 years at that time. She was tireless in loving Katie and several foster sons. When Katie was in her early teens, Jerimiah Murray joined their family. Jerimiah came to them as a therapeutic foster child and over the years he has truly overcome many difficult things through the love and devotion of Camrin and John. In recent years, one of Camrin’s greatest joys was being Grandmama to Katie’s three daughters Charlotte, Payton, and Emily.
Outside of home life, Camrin has served as a five-fold ministry teacher and ministry partner with John through their ministry called His Gates. She has mentored and mothered many women and men through this ministry.
Her compassion for others was such that while she was in ICU, she was so touched by the needs of others that she would ask those who visited her to pray for the people on the floor. Her hope was that the patients, families, nurses, doctors, and medical staff would find salvation in Jesus Christ.
Camrin will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her joyous laughter and generous goodwill, along with her zeal for people to know God are a hallmark of Camrin’s legacy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, John Harris; daughter Katie (Trevor) McCall, grandchildren Charlotte, Payton, and Emily; foster son Jerimiah Murray; siblings Craig Mar, Traci (Greg) Fung, Robin Mar (Randall Hoffman), and many nieces and nephews; stepfamily Robyn Mar, Mark (Laura) Ledwith, Alyson (Michael) D’Auteuil, Ryan (Tamara) Ledwith, Tyler Ledwith, and many step nieces and step nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Mun and Helen Mar.
