Gifts & Memorial Donations

Brenda Y. Payne, 57, of Hendersonville, died Friday, January 30, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Mulberry, FL, she was a daughter of Willa Mae Matthews of Plant City, FL. She lived most of her life in Florida, residing in Vero Beach and the Florida Keys prior to moving to Western Carolina in 2001. She cherished her career at Carolina Village, serving as administrative assistant for the Medical Center and also overseeing the Medicare billing for the facility. Although she enjoyed the mountains, she always loved the ocean and the feeling of sand between her toes and being coated in salt from the sea. She had a great appreciation for music and displayed great affection for her animals and friends. She adored her husband, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Asia Rhiannon Acosta, who died in 2011 and by her step-father, Jim Matthews. Brenda is survived, in addition to her mother, by her beloved husband of 22 years, Samuel E. Payne; 3 children, Jason D’Mont, Samantha Payne and Eric Payne; 10 grandchildren and her mother in-law, Olive Eckert. Per her wishes, there will be no services. To honor her memory, please make contributions to the Carolina Village Supplemental Fund, 600 Carolina Village Rd. Hendersonville, NC 28792.
