Betty Jane (Sample) Gaunt

Betty Jane (Sample) Gaunt, 92, of 202 Sweet Lane, Hendersonville, NC passed away on Feb. 8th, 2019 following a severe stroke. Betty was born on March 17th, 1926 in Detroit, Mich. to the late Ralph & Caroline (Poker) Sample. She lived and married in Detroit, Michigan enjoying many years of friendships (namely, The Crowd) that endured a lifetime. She married, the late, Richard Gaunt in 1948 and together they raised 3 children, Cynthia Gaunt (passed in Jan. 2019), Thomas Gaunt and Julia Gaunt. Relocating in 1960, her family, including her parents, spent many fulfilling years both at the ocean and camping in the San Bernardino mountains. In 1968 they returned to Michigan and their lifelong friends. Betty later moved to Orlando Florida in 1987 to care for her elderly mother and be near her son’s family. In 1995 she moved to Hendersonville, NC until the present. Betty was a caring mother and thoroughly enjoyed her independence living alone with great contentment in the Dana Hill Community. She leaves behind her son Thomas Gaunt and his wife Carol Langford, Julia Gaunt and her partner, seven grandchildren; Ryan Yzquierdo & his wife Lori, Shaun Yzquierdo & his wife Sara, Samala Hirst, Serena Maldonado & her husband Oscar, Ayla Pettry, Jenny Gaunt, Jesse Gaunt and six great grandchildren; Jaden, Eisabella, Leo, Trent, Katelyn and Madelyn. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 17, 2019, from 2-6 pm at Lake Tomahawk, 401 Laurel Cir Dr., Black Mountain, NC 28711. We will celebrate Betty’s 93rd birthday and St. Patrick’s Day – Wear Green!
