Amelia Johnson passed to her eternal home on February 20, 2021, at the Elizabeth House after a long illness
She was the daughter of Lonnie Earl Coates and Annie Louise Coates who both predeceased her.
As a business-course graduate of Mars Hill College, her career began at First Federal Savings and Loan Association. She was later employed by the law firm of Crowell and Crowell Attorneys for seven years. Then she began her long-term career working in the Henderson County Clerk of Court’s Office where she retired after 30 years of service.
During these years she married Jefferson Davis Johnson and they had three children: Melissa, Brion and Molly. Brion predeceased her at the age of three months old, and Molly predeceased her at the age of forty six.
Amelia is survived by her daughter Melissa Johnson of Homeworth, Ohio and her brother David Coates of Hendersonville.
Amelia was an active member of the First Alliance Church of Hendersonville and was one of the original charter members. There she served as a beginner Sunday School class teacher, AWANA helper, part-time organist and janitor. Her desire was to lead a quiet life reflecting the Lord Jesus Christ and telling others about how He proved Himself faithful to her in her life.
Amelia enjoyed painting, story writing, cooking and especially playing Scrabble with friends.
The family especially wishes to thank her dedicated physician Dr. Randy Tryon, who has faithfully provided his caring service to Amelia and her family for many years.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at two o’clock pm at First Alliance Church of Hendersonville, 1821 Windsor Drive, Hendersonville, NC.
Date: Wednesday, February 24, 2021

Amelia was a sweet friend and co-worker when we worked for the Clerk of Superior Court. She always had a smile and was such a comfort to others when she worked in the Estates office. She made the BEST Broccoli Casserole and every time we had a covered dish dinner at the courthouse, I always asked her to bring it. She told me one day that everyone would get tired of her bringing the same dish! I said "never" because it was so delicious. It is still one of my favorites that I cook at my own family gatherings. Prayers for the family as I know she will be greatly missed.
