We at Shuler Funeral Home are saddened to report the passing of our founder, Rutledge E. “Ron” Shuler.
Ron had served the Hendersonville community in funeral service since moving to the area in 1976.
Born and raised in a farming community in South Carolina, he was an alumnus of the University of South Carolina and Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science where he served as Vice President of his graduating class and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement.
He soon became the Vice-President and Manager of Kistler Funeral Home in Darlington, SC before moving to Hendersonville to become a Professional Sales Consultant with Batesville Casket Company.
A true academic, he conducted numerous continuing education seminars for funeral directors and served as a special instructor in the Funeral Service School at Forsyth Community College in Winston-Salem.
In 1996, Ron was inducted into the Batesville Masters Club for outstanding long-term achievement, the highest award given in sales.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville where he previously served as Deacon and Co-Chairman of the bereavement committee. Ron sadly lost his wife, Faye in 2013. He enjoyed spending time with their two daughters and five grandchildren.
