James Donald Garren, Sr.
September 15, 1939 - December 14, 2011
James Donald Garren, Sr., 72, of Hendersonville was called home to be with his Savior Jesus on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Dessie Barnwell Garren. He graduated from Edneyville High School and proudly served in the US Army. He was employed by DuPont for 34 years, retiring in 1992.

Mr. Garren was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church where he served the Lord as Deacon and devoted Sunday School teacher. He faithfully taught Sunday School for over 30 years in various churches. He loved all of his Sunday School members and kept in touch with all of them.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved flowers, genealogy, and picking raspberries with his grandchildren.

Mr. Garren is survived by his childhood sweetheart to whom he had been married for 48 years, Erma Corn Garren of Hendersonville; his son, James Garren, Jr., and daughter, Denise Garren-McCarson and husband, Todd, all of Hendersonville; two grandchildren, Dessie and Caleb McCarson of Hendersonville; his brother, Willard Garren and wife, Armelia, of Sanford; and nieces and nephews, Stan Garren and wife, Kathy, Tony Garren and wife, Teddi, and Teresa Bright and husband, Anthony.

He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with the Reverends Roy Waldroup and Harry Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery (New). The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Saturday in the old Sanctuary of Fletcher First Baptist Church.

Sunday December 18, 2011, 2:00 PM at Fletcher First Baptist Church

Burial will follow at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery (New). The family will receive friend from 6 - 8 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 in the old Sanctuary of Fletcher First Baptist Church.
