James Royal Platt, 72, passed away on July 3, 2016 at Elizabeth House.

He was a decorated United States Air Force Veteran serving three tours in Vietnam as a Weapons Systems Officer in F-4 Phantoms retiring in 1991 with the rank of Colonel. Post retirement work was as a support contractor at National Aeronautics and Space Center (NASA) in Merritt Island Florida moving to Hendersonville in 2008.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth McGarity. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jeanette A. Platt, a daughter Stacy Reichel and her husband Charlie, three grandchildren, Jack, Andy, Carlie of Ocean Springs MS, a son, Timothy of Jacksonville FL, two nieces of Germantown MD, and a cousin, Laura Gile of Hayward CA.

A memorial service will be at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville on Monday July 18 at 10:00AM with Pastor Wally Shamburger officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 2:00PM.
