Gifts & Memorial Donations

Frederick W Cox, Jr., a resident of Hendersonville, NC for 11 years, passed away Saturday, June 10, at the age of 80. Fred and his wife Paula were born in NJ and after they married in 1959, they relocated to Ft. Lauderdale and Wilton Manors, FL where daughters Margaret and Joann were born.

A “shell back” Fred served for 6 years as a submariner with the US Navy 6th Fleet, beginning in 1953.  He was able to travel around the world and thus begin his love of the water.  An avid big game fisherman and a diver, the Bahamas, Panama, Venezuela, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, and especially the Great Barrier Reef were his Favorites.

He also had a love of cars and in 1973 opened Auto Acrylics, Inc., in Oakland Park, FL, restoring numerous exotic automobiles.  A 1973 Ford Mach I Mustang was one of several of his personal restorations for his family.  Since the NC move and several more restorations, he turned to gardening and woodworking. Natural edge bowls and kitchen items were his favorites

His wife Paula of 58 years lives at the Cox home.  Daughters Margaret Robertson and Joann Doyle (husband James) also live in Hendersonville.  Fred’s brother Arthur Cox (wife Patricia) lives in Jupiter Fl.  All are deeply saddened by this loss of a loving husband, father and brother, as are many friends. They know he is in the hands of a loving God and know HE will be protected, just as Fred protected his family.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Shuler Funeral Home at 4pm on Friday, June 16, 2017 with military honors.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Burial at sea off the coast of FL will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles George Veterans Attn. Volunteer Services, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
