Donald E. Lenhart, 85, passed away March 13, 2016 at his home in Crab Creek.

Born in Toledo, OH, he was one of eight children of Lawrence and Genevieve Lenhart.  After serving in the Air Force, and training in Serbo-Croatian at the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey CA, Don graduated with a B.S. in Linguistics and a M.S. in Russian from Georgetown University.

He was employed by the Defense Dept. at Fort Meade MD for 36 years.  Don spoke many languages fluently, and often recited (in Russian) the poet Pushkin to his daughter, instead of a bedtime story.  Toward the end of his career he worked at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

In 1988 he and his wife Vesta Jean moved to the mountains of NC.  He rejoiced in the beauty and serenity of their home.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vesta Jean, daughter Cynthia, son-in-law Ben Lobst, sisters Angie and Jeri, brothers Bernie and Dave, and sisters-in-law Lola and Rita.  His sister Donna and brothers Jim and Kenny passed before him.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

The memories of his wonderful spirit will always light our hearts.
